SHIPPING INFORMATION:
The standard specification for SW Grade, CSA - A82.1-M87, requires that a brick is structurally sound and has sustained longevity. CSA A82.2 includes testing procedures to measure these properties. These procedures develop values for compressive strength, cold and boil absorptions, saturation co-efficient, and several other properties. 1. Compressive Strength - A grade SW brick will have an average compressive strength of 5 brick must equal or exceed 3000 PSI (20.7MPa). 2. Boil Absorption - This is the percent of the dry weight that a brick absorbs when boiled in water for 5 hours, and must not exceed 17% average (20% individual). 3. Alternate Specifications - brick must pass 3.1 or 3.2: 3.1 Cold Absorption - This is the percent of its dry weight that a brick submerged in cold water will absorb in 24 hours, and should be equal to or less than 8% average (10% individual). 3.2 Saturation Co-Efficient (C/B Ratio) - This is calculated by dividing the % Cold Absorption by the % Boil Absorption. It should not exceed an average of 0.78% (0.80 individual). Other properties that can be measured are IRA (Initial Rate of Absorption), size and warpage tolerances, modulus of rapture, and efflorescence. Paisley brick meet or exceed these standards.
